INTERVIEW WITH DR PAUL WOOD
How to manage your inner bully
22 MAY 2023
I was lucky enough to be able to share a snippet about Peptalk on our farm’s Hyundai Country Calendar episode which aired last night. In the episode, I was interviewing Dr Paul Wood, he’s one of the most inspiring mind health experts I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with. Dr Wood is an incredible example of our capacity to create positive change in our lives.
Something that often prevents us from positive change is our inner bully.
Each of us has this inner bully to some degree, atleast at times.
What’s worse, our inner bully seems to rear its head when we’re going through challenges or feeling low. At the times when we most need support, our inner voice is anything but supportive!
In this video lesson, Dr Wood shares two strategies for managing your inner bully.
Most of the time, we don’t have much control over circumstances or things that are happening around us. But we do have control over what’s happening inside of us. However difficult it can be (often it takes sheer willpower), we CAN change what our mental chatter is saying to us.
"Power is influence over external events.
Peace is influence over internal events."
- James Clear
Of course, before we can change anything, we first need to be aware of it.
Pause and listen to what your inner voice is saying.
Is it being an inner bully?
Take the opportunity this week, whenever you have an idle moment, to practise being present and aware. Listen to what the voice inside your mind is saying. Could you change what it's saying to something that’s more kind, helpful, or uplifting to you?
Watch the video snippet above from our interview with Dr Paul Wood and then put Paul’s strategies to the test - turn your inner bully into an inner friend.
How many moments this week can you become present and aware?
Can you catch your inner bully and stop it in its tracks?
"When you wash your hands, when you make a cup of coffee, when you're waiting in line, instead of indulging in thinking, these are all opportunities for being there as a still, alert presence." - Eckhart Tolle.
Until next week…
Nadine

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Hi, I'm Nadine.
A girl on a mission to conquer my mind, and help others conquer theirs.
Since I first worked with mental coaches through elite sport at age 14, I've been somewhat obsessed (ok a lot obsessed) with the power of the mind. If top athletes, business people and military personnel train their minds to cope and thrive in high pressure situations, wouldn't we all massively benefit from learning proven mental skills? Couldn't applying these skills help us rise above stress and adversity, feel happier and excel in our lives? I believe the answer to these questions is YES! PEPTALK is where I share mind conquering strategies in creative & engaging ways to help both myself and others live their best life!
