Self efficacy is a person's belief in their ability to exercise control over their own functioning or over their response to events that affect their lives.
Self efficacy is an antidote to fear and worry.
In her book, "Feel the fear and do it anyway", Susan Jeffers concludes that all of our fears boil down to one overarching fear - the fear that we won't be able to handle what comes our way in life. To combat this fear, Susan recommends a mantra to carry with us through each day.
The mantra is:
"Whatever happens, I'll handle it"
Or shorten it to simply:
"I'll handle it"
Simple and powerful, this mantra is a useful tool to build self efficacy. Say it out loud or to yourself regularly and build up your self belief that whatever comes your way....
you DO have the strength,
the tools ....
to handle it.
