Easter Pep Talk

HAPPY EASTER!

Easter symbolises a time of new beginnings. A clean slate. A fresh start.
This fresh start involves looking back at the goals you set at the start of this year.

Which of the below applies?

A. I promptly forgot about them a couple of weeks into January.
B. I made a good start, but life got in the way.

C. I’m making steady progress.
D. I’m nailing it.
E. I didn’t set any.

If your answer is anything but D, it’s time for a kick up the proverbial! This kicking comes in the form of constant, relentless, Self Pep Talking.

If you have a big goal, you need to be Pep Talking yourself all day, everyday.

The bigger the goal, the more Self Pep Talking required. Before you think, ‘I feel weird and crazy talking to myself’, have you not noticed that you’re already talking to yourself 24/7? Surely you’ve heard that incessant voice in your head? If not, try taking a listen. It never shuts up. The problem is, this voice repeats the same old, mostly negative, thoughts, AKA self talk, day in day out.

Since you’re going to be talking to yourself anyway, why not engage a little will power and consciously choose what that voice rabbits on about in there. Rather than the autopilot subconscious programme playing, you are now consciously choosing healthy, motivating, inspiring things to say to yourself. The distinction is, a Self Pep Talk involves CONSCIOUSLY talking to yourself.

What should this Self Pep Talk consist of?

What Here’s some golden advice from Tom Bilyeu, hugely successful entrepreneur and host of the YouTube show Impact Theory (you really should check that out), Tom uses the 80/20 rule when it comes to self talk.

“I spend 80% of my time thinking about the things that are amazing in my life, the things I’m grateful for, the beautiful things that I want to build and create, and congratulating myself for the good things I’ve done, achieved, the progress I’ve made, and for following through and doing the things I said I would do. But I also spend 20% of my time kicking myself in the arse, because otherwise you get really stagnant.”

The key is finding that balance between positive and negative reinforcement to discover the sweet spot that will motivate you to execute on the steps that move you closer and faster to your goal’s realisation.

Easter Monday is a great day for a fresh, reinvigorated start. That start can begin right now with a morning Self Pep Talk. What are you waiting for.

Try these sentence starters:
You’re doing awesome at ...
I’m so proud of you for…
I’m so happy and grateful that…
Today I commit to…
I will try harder at….

Now to remember

The tricky part is to keep this up throughout the day. It’s going to require commitment. Simply finding a way to remember to stay conscious, once you get busy with your day, can be a challenge.

Try this:
Do you know that most of us on average look at our phones 400x a day, your phone background is prime realestate for positive reminders. Save the image below to your phone’s photos and set it as your phone background/wallpaper.  (If you're reading this on your computer, open this blog post on your phone and simply click and save the image).
