The one question you need to ask if you are not achieving your goals.

A common misconception is that once we achieve a certain goal, we will then become a certain kind of person.
The truth is that we have this back to front. The way it really works is, FIRST we become a certain kind of person, and THEN we achieve the goal, as a result of being that person.

In fact, if you delve into it, you will probably discover the reason you want to achieve a particular goal, is because you want to become the person that you will become, when you attain the goal.

What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals."

- Henry David Thoreau -

Now to the all important magic question.

WHO DO I NEED TO BE?

Simply put, if you are not achieving your goal, or attaining the things you desire, then reason is - you are not being the person that you need to be.

Ask yourself, who do I need to become in order to reach that next thing?

"Not only do all achievers ask this question regularly, but all happy people also ask this question. You are perfect right now for the life you are living right now. You are all you need to be right now, you are enough. But if you want a different life, an improved life, a growing life, an increased life... this version of you is inferior to get to that place."
- Ed Mylett. (check out more high impact advice from Ed here.)

ACTION STEPS:

1. Make a list.
Think about your goal(s), the things you want to achieve, the life you want to live.
Now picture the person that you imagine yourself to be, once you have achieved this goal, attained these things, are living this life. Think about the beliefs, characteristics, personality traits, behaviours, and habits of this person.
Brainstorm a list...

Perhaps some of these words might be included in your list:
Brave
Bold
Disciplined
Belief in self
Self secure
Confident
Positive
Kind
Patient
Courageous
Relentless
Ruthless
Unwavering faith
Consistent
Committed

NOTE: This is not the person you will become once you achieve your goal.
This is the person you need to BE, in order to achieve your goal.

Observe.
This week, observe your current behaviours, thoughts, habits...
How many of the key traits from your list are you displaying consistently? Consistency is key.
Keep a journal to document and reflect on what you discover.
