From Tragedy to Hope
Mai i te Aituā ki te Tūmanako
In September 2012, a family in Taranaki buried their beautiful twelve-year-old daughter, Carrie. She had experienced a rough ride in her short life, and her beautiful sisters and parents loved her so dearly, and continue to love and miss her so very very much. Through this loss, they had experienced the worst time in their lives - and, through that experience, had also known some tremendous care. This experience lead this family to take a leap of enormous faith, followed by sheer hard work to bring about the realisation of a purpose built suicide prevention retreat.
At Taranaki Retreat they support people with a free stay to help get on top of things - or sometimes with the outreach of their team, at home, or just by having the opportunity to visit the Retreat and hanging out for a day here or there - and getting the benefit of a listening ear from one of their Support Team and a tasty meal or two. And there is No cost for any of this.
Taranaki Retreat is for everyone. They are a diverse, open-minded, accepting community, and will help anyone that they can, regardless of race, sexuality, gender identity, class, culture, or religion. They do not discriminate; their kaupapa is suicide prevention for everyone.
